ABOUT
Chris Murphy, SE, Founder and
Lead Engineer
Chris Murphy is the principal owner of Murphy Structural Engineers, Inc. He has more than 17 years of experience working on structural and civil engineering projects throughout California, for companies that include the Nature Conservancy, Cal Poly, Facebook, Coca-Cola, County of San Luis Obispo, City of Pismo Beach, Cambrian Innovations, and dozens of wineries and breweries throughout California.
Chris obtained his Bachelors's and Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from Cal Poly, with an emphasis on structural analysis and geotechnical engineering. He later went on to obtain his California Professional Engineering and Structural Engineering licenses.
For several years, Chris has taught engineering courses at Cal Poly in the areas of mechanics, materials, reinforced concrete design, civil engineering principals, and statics. He prepared students for their subsequent classes and future careers by demonstrating practical applications based on theory.
During this time, he became passionate and involved with Cal Poly’s Engineers Without Borders (EWB) program as a mentor and lead engineer. Chris volunteered much of his free time helping students build life-changing facilities such as hospitals and elementary schools in Nicaragua.
Chris is well connected throughout the community on the Central Coast and has too many interests and talents to list. He is married to his wife, Yukie, and lives in San Luis Obispo with their two kids. Rounding out their family are two cats, five chickens, and a small home brewery in the garage.
